A small camera on a cable that shows you what's behind, under and inside the places you can't see into.
- Look before you call out. See what's behind the washing machine or under a floorboard before you pay someone just to come and look.
- Take it to car viewings. Look into wheel arches, along the sills and under the engine bay for rust or leaks the advert didn't mention.
- Find what you've dropped. Track down keys behind a radiator or an earring caught just inside the plughole without pulling things apart.
- A gift for the fixer. A practical Christmas present for whoever sorts things out in your house, whether they own it or rent.
Where it earns its keep
Got a damp patch you can't explain? Feed the cable in behind the washing machine, under the bath panel or through a gap in the floorboards and see if anything's dripping. If you know what you're looking at before you ring a plumber, the call is quicker, and sometimes it turns out you don't need one.
At a used-car viewing, it lets you check the wheel arches, sills and the underside of the engine bay without lying on a wet pavement. Look for rust, oil and filler that's been painted over.
In the loft, the eaves or the gap behind a fitted unit, it's handy for following a cable, checking a hidden corner or finding where something rolled. Landlords and tenants can use it at check-in or check-out without taking the kitchen apart.
How to get a clear picture
Wipe the lens with a soft, dry cloth before you start. One smear and everything looks foggy.
Go slowly. Push the cable in a few centimetres at a time and let the picture settle before you move again.
When you find something, take a screenshot or a photo of the screen. Then you can show the plumber, the mechanic or your letting agent exactly what you saw.
Good to know
It shows you what's there, but it won't diagnose anything. A rusty sill or a wet joist still needs someone who knows what they're looking at, and it doesn't replace a proper pre-purchase inspection on a car.
Never put it into live electrics, sockets or a gas appliance. If you're looking near wiring, switch off at the consumer unit first. Before you drill an access hole in a wall, check for hidden pipes and cables.
Before you look round a car engine, turn it off and let it cool, and keep the cable clear of the fan and belts. It's made for quick close-up checks around the house and car. It isn't the kind of survey camera a drainage firm uses.

Questions
Will it tell me what's wrong with my drain or car?
No. It lets you see into places your eyes can't reach, but working out what you're seeing is still up to you or a professional. What it does do is help you describe the problem clearly when you ring someone.
Can I use it when I'm viewing a used car?
Yes, as long as the seller agrees. Make sure the engine is off and cool, then check the sills, wheel arches and under the engine bay. It's a good first look, but it doesn't replace a mechanic's inspection or a history check.
Is it safe to use near wiring?
Don't put it into live electrics or sockets. Switch off at the consumer unit before you look anywhere near wiring, and never put it inside a boiler or any gas appliance.
Can I use it under floorboards or in the loft?
Yes, through a gap or a lifted board. If you need to drill an access hole, check for pipes and cables first with a detector.
How long does delivery take?
UK delivery is free and tracked. It usually takes 7 to 12 working days, so leave enough time if it's a Christmas present.
